There are a number of events in the beginning of the year that present great opportunities to boost shop awareness. From the obvious ones like Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day to some of the less-celebrated (but still big) events like Mardi Gras, the NCAA basketball tournament and the NFL championship, there are opportunities abound for you to add more designs and products to your shops and take advantage of the ready-made marketing created by a season full of events. Read our quick 3-step guide to learn how to take full advantage of these holidays and events and you’ll be in the money when it’s all said and done.
Step 1: Start Now!
It’s important to generate interest for your ideas in plenty of time. This way, you can warm your customers to both getting interested in your ideas and making their purchase in your shop. It’s important to do the legwork prior to the actual sales time, as you need to take into account that order deliveries take a bit of time. This is particularly true for Valentine’s Day since a lot of men tend to do their shopping at the last minute, so it’s definitely wise to generate awareness in time.
Step 2: Define Target Group
You could try creating hundreds of designs and hope to hit it right with a few of them, or do a couple really solid ones and make sure you address your target group directly.
Who do you want to sell to? That’s the first and most important question. Do your designs and products potentially interest rabble-rousing motorcycle outlaws, Brazilian mothers-to-be, basketball bracket junkies or trend-scouting hipster nerds? And then, who would be interested in what kind of Valentine’s Day gifts? It’s also a good idea to offer gifts to those who don’t like Valentine’s Day or have no Irish background to celebrate on Patty’s Day. That’s worth a slogan on a t-shirt, at least! As always, the sky’s the limit to your creativity. Just make sure you have somebody in mind when creating products for your shop.
Step 3: Create Designs & Products
When you know who you want to address, you need to create dedicated products just for them.
Traditionally-minded people would look for gifts saying “My boyfriend loves me” on Valentine’s Day, “Fat Tuesday” designs for Mardi Gras, or “March Madness” ideas for the NCAA tournament, whereas others would prefer discovering new territory. They might find greater appeal in offbeat designs that express a traditional cliché in a new and different way. Cute animals, crazy patterns and slogans, or a mixture of all of these ingredients work well for a lot of people. Be creative!
Just one more thing: Tags are always super important, and you should never forget to use fitting keywords to describe your designs. You’ll find more info on tags in this blog post.
